We are proud to present the Broward Business Leadership Network (BBLN) Sixth Annual “Connections: People – Employers – Resources” focused on individuals with disabilities in the workplace. It will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 at Nova Southeastern University, Carl DeSantis Building, H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, in Davie, Florida. This annual educational and career fair event will have two keynote speakers and is spearheaded by its founding members: Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Nova Southeastern University, WorkForce One, and the United Way of Broward County.
Deb Russell, the Corporate Manager for Walgreen she oversees the company’s commitment to have one third of the workforce in its latest and all future distribution centers consist of qualified individuals with disabilities. The first of these centers opened in January 2007. Ms. Russell has advised and monitored the efforts in order to disseminate lessons that are learned. Walgreen is the nations’ largest drugstore chain and the 3rd largest of food and drug stores. Fortune Magazine ranks Walgreen as the 40th largest company in America and it employs over 230,000 people. She will be addressing issues related to employment of people with disabilities within the workforce investment and Medicaid system. She has presented nationally on topics related to the employment of people with disabilities.
Jill Houghton, Deputy Executive Director, of the United States Business Leadership Network. Ms. Houghton brings over 19 years of work experience at the federal, state and local levels to advance the employment and economic self-sufficiency of all people with disabilities. Ms. Houghton is a resident of Broward County and has lived and worked in Broward for several years. Her diverse background includes working with employers in Washington State to found the Washington State Business Leadership Network as well as the Executive Director of the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Advisory Panel from February 2005 until its legislative sunset in January, 2008.
